How to Have a Bacteria-Free Toothbrush

Posted .

Unfortunately, bacteria are attracted to toothbrushes. If you’re not careful, your brush could harbor the germs that create sicknesses and even dental issues. This is why it’s recommended to keep your toothbrush clean. To help you do so, Dr. David Powell has some beneficial tips for you.

First, wash your hands before you brush your smile. We recommend this because brushing with clean hands can prevent bacteria from jumping to your toothbrush and making it dirty. So, make sure to wash your hands with soap and warm water before you reach for your brush.

Second, place your toothbrush in an upright position in its storage place so the bristles can dry. This is especially important if you use a toothbrush cover. It’s best to let the bristles dry before you put the toothbrush cover over it because if you don’t, the moist environment can promote bacteria growth.

Third, avoid sharing your toothbrush with anyone, even your family members. Sharing your brush means sharing saliva, and when the saliva is transferred from one mouth to another, and it can easily promote cavities. It’s also important to throw your toothbrush away after you have been ill.
