Good Oral Health Care Starts in the Home and Continues With Great Dental Care

Your oral health requires both at-home and professional care to thrive. In this article, we’ve listed a few things you can include in your dental care routine to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Keep reading to learn more.

Mind Your Specific Dental Health Requirements

Different people have different needs. Your dentist is the best person to recommend the best treatments, procedures, and care for your specific issues. This is especially true if you have medical/health concerns that may affect your oral health.

For example, cancer treatments, pregnancy, heart disease, and diabetes can all affect your oral health and may require special care.

Establish and Adhere to Regular Oral Care Practices

Consult with your oral healthcare provider about any oral or overall health concerns you may be experiencing and develop an easy-to-follow daily oral hygiene plan. Make sure you follow up your at-home routine with regular dental checkups and cleanings once every 6 months.

Use Fluoride

Fluoride strengthens children's growing teeth and protects both children and adults from tooth decay. Fluoride is found in toothpaste and mouth rinses.

In some cases, the amount of fluoride in drinking water may not be enough to prevent tooth decay. Ask the dentist if you need fluoride supplements or a prescription-strength fluoride oral care product.

Daily Brushing, Flossing, and Rinsing

Brush teeth twice daily (in the morning and before sleep), and floss at least once a day. Doing this helps eliminate plaque and prevents gum disease and tooth decay.

Maintain a Balanced Diet and Avoid Excessive Snacking

Consume various meals, but limit your intake of sweets and carbs like cookies, cakes, pies, candies, ice cream, dried fruit, soft drinks, and potato chips. These foods can negatively impact your oral health. If you do consume these snacks, clean your teeth or consume sugar-free gum afterward.
