October is National Dental Hygiene Month: Brushing, Flossing, and More!

October is National Dental Hygiene Month. This October, we are promoting better ways of taking care of your teeth and gums so that you can maintain your healthy, bright smile.

Here’s what you can do this October (or before) to improve your smile:

What to Do to Make Your Teeth Cleaner?

The very first thing you need to do is to ensure there is no plaque buildup on your teeth. The foods and drinks you consume will determine whether your teeth will be affected by plaque or not.

For example, regularly drinking sodas and other sugary beverages can increase plaque buildup and negatively impact your dental health. Therefore, you should avoid them and never skip your routine dental checkups and cleanings if you want to have clean and healthy teeth.

Here are a few other things you can do to make your teeth cleaner:

Brush Twice a Day

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and always brush twice a day for two minutes each time using gentle strokes. You should also choose a toothbrush with a flexible head to make sure you reach every corner of your mouth when brushing.

Floss Daily

Do not skip flossing. Try to floss at least once a day to eliminate any bacterial accumulations from in between the teeth. If you do not floss, there will soon be tartar buildup in the places where plaque has accumulated.

Rinse With an Antibacterial Mouthwash

Even if you brush and floss regularly, there can still be bacteria in your mouth. To get rid of them, you should regularly rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash after brushing. Contact your dentist to find out which mouthwash would best suit your needs.

Chew Sugar-Free Gum

After meals, you can chew sugar-free gum to eliminate food deposits and increase saliva production. Chewing gum for at least 20 minutes after each meal will help you keep your teeth clean and healthy.
